Jennifer Garner is a West Virginia native who was born in Houston on the 17th of April, 1972. William John Garner worked as an chemist at Union Carbide. Patricia Ann was a teacher at the local school. She earned a degree in chemical engineering to emulate her father. However, because she wanted to follow her dream of becoming an actor, she relocated in New York to try her chance in the movie industry. She worked as a chef in the restaurant in New York, and was a part of Broadway productions. Garner was a small part in the film "Felicity" (where she also encountered Scott Foley). Garner made her mark with the romantic comedy "13 Going on 30" where she played the role of a teenage girl trapped within an adult's body. Garner picked Gary Winick to direct the film; they were looking at other projects together until his death in 2011. Garner was appointed as an artist ambassador by Save the Children U.S.A. for 2009, played a key role in the nonprofit organization. This includes the advancement of the importance of nutrition, literacy and early education. Garner, who has served as a member of the board since 2014, serves as an advocate for early learning. As a member of the Early Steps to School Success (EASS) Ambassador team for the EASS program Garner regularly visits families to guide them in ways to encourage their young children to be successful.
